I was on my way home from the bank when I spotted something out of the corner of my eye. I pulled a u-turn and whipped into the parking lot. Oh joy!!!
A Habitat for Humanity: ReStore.
Finally one near my house! The only other one close to me was about 40 minutes away. I can swing by this one on my way home from work. Whoo hoo.
I have had some projects in mind, but had no luck after checking craig's list repeatedly. 40 minutes is too far to drive in the hopes that I will find what I am looking for.
I wanted to add interest to my 90's builder cabinets. New kitchens have cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling like these images I found on Pinterest.
I was thrilled to have the open space on top of my cabinets in 1993 and I have had a good time decorating up there in the years since. However, the space above the stove is a sticky greasy mess that requires cleaning a couple of times a year. I hate it and it is wasted space. I am sure that is why kitchen designers have gone back to taller kitchen cabinets. I hated my popcorn ceiling so much that I think that I over compensated by packing it too full of collectibles. Then everything up there got greasy too. I doubt that distracting the eye even worked. I am sure it was like
putting a bulls eye on my popcorn ceiling.
I was really feeling done with so much junk on top of the cabinets and suddenly we had a leak.
It did nothing for me.
It is nearly a perfect match mind you. Oh the hinges were in a different spot and the panel inside the door was a tad different. But the space above was still too high.
Last night I moved it to this cabinet.
I set it off center and tada!
I love it.
I figured I would find something eventually, but I was tickled to find it my first time in!
I cannot believe how close a match this is.
It didn't work in the other spot but here it is so cute. This works because I don't think things always have to be perfectly symmetrical.
I will get some molding for the top. I staged it with some
Mother's Day flowers from my son.
I also got these lovely roses from my daughter.
I hope you had a lovely day.
Sprinkled with cabinetry,

We got the ceiling repaired and the popcorn scraped off.
I love it.
Who would have thought a ceiling could be so beautiful.
I have looked and looked at these cabinet tops and thought that a small cabinet identical to the cabinet above the microwave would add interest. I even hoped one of my neighbors would remodel their kitchen by now and I could snag something out of their trash. I have wrapped my brain around this may times and even thought Mr. Bill could build a box if I could find the doors.
But custom ordered cabinet doors are expensive.
What to do?
Unbelievably I found this at the Restore.
I cleaned it up and set it on top right above the microwave cabinet. It did nothing for me.

Did I mention that is was only $20.00? I love a bargain.
