No Sew Fabric Pumpkins

Last year I was burning up the sewing machine making all kinds of fabric pumpkins.

Not a seamstress?
I have an old standby pumpkin craft that is perfect for you!

All you need is some fabric, a stick and this important everyday item.

I made these with my class of three year old students.
It is that easy!

Here is what you need:
I roll of toilet paper
1/4 yard fabric or a fat quarter
Polyfill batting
1 stick from the yard
Ribbon and trim (I used orange raffia)
Fall berries or picks of some kind

Cut a square of fabric that is big enough to go around the roll of t.p.
Set the toilet paper in the center of the fabric square and
put a layer of batting all around the toilet paper.
Make sure that the batting is sort of in the middle so it rounds out the pumpkin.

Tuck the ends of the fabric into the center of the roll.
You may need to make a fold here and there.
Stuff it in all the way around and secure with the a short piece of the stick to make a stem.

Use hot glue or craft glue to trim out around the top of the pumpkin.

This is such a fun craft.
I made oodles of them years ago and some are still around.
Some got sacrificed when we ran out of toilet paper.

Double win!
Cute decor item and emergency toilet paper stash.

I almost had to raid the fall totes last week when we had the great toilet paper crisis of September 2013.

We only had a roll and a half left.
One of the bathrooms didn't have any toilet paper!!!
;)

I had this rusty color velveteen left over from pumpkin fest last year. It was only 50 cents at the thrift store.
These velvet pumpkins are all the rage this fall so I will be using all that I have of this fabric.
I hope you will give it a try.

Lime Green and White Pumpkins

I changed my fall decor after we got the cabinets painted.
I have wanted a white kitchen for so long, I didn't really want to put  too much orange in the finished space.
I just got rid of orange oak cabinets so I didn't want to add orange back in.
This season I have been drawn time and time again to green and neutrals.
I found these green leaves at Tom Thumb.
 I love them.
A lovely chartreuse.

The leaves  don't typically change color in our neck of the woods until November.
This shade of green is a little out of the norm for me and since the leaves are still green outside, I think they are perfect.
I love using natural elements in my decorating.

I have paired the leaves with some white pumpkins.
I know they are all the rage, but I never noticed them in the store until this year.

I love these peach colored roses and white pumpkins.

I went on a quest and spray painted some of my older ceramic, wood and resin pumpkins white.

The green and white together is so calming.

Nothing feels overdone.
I put some dried hydrangeas with some white pumpkins.
I've sprinkled a few burlap pumpkins in the mix, just to change it up a little.

My sister in law and I each made a burlap memory board.
I filled mine with vintage postcards and a picture of Rebekah at the pumpkin patch.
She was about 5 at the time.
I am crazy about vintage postcards
This one of the birch trees and the canoe is just so cute.

I bought this sweet fellow of off e-bay.

Finally I will show off my first painted sign.
I saw this craft on Pinterest done by
Sweet Something Design.
I had a fun Sunday afternoon painting. It isn't perfect but I love how it turned out.
I love how the house feels decorated for fall but not decorated, you know what I mean?
Sprinkled with neutrals and green,
Katie

Fall Front Porch

We don't have a large front porch.
I try to make the most of it.
We replaced our door a few years ago.
We chose this Craftsman style door.
It looks fabulous during the fall.
We got the bushel basket this summer from Hobby Lobby.
It takes 3 mums to fill it.

I picked up the orange Halloween lights a couple of years ago.
The little grandson that visits across the street saw them and loved them.
He made his mommy run out and get some for their house.

The garland is just a grapevine wreath and a leaf garland from Big Lots.

Mr. Bill gets startled by the scarecrow usually once a season. He is a very early riser. If he sees it before his morning coffee he thinks someone is on the porch.
I really should move it, but the thought of him getting startled cracks me up.
I can't tell you how many times Mr. Bill has startled me.
I am easily spooked.

We found this light at a garage sale for  $5.00. I thought we would get new glass for it, but the amber glass looks beautiful during autumn.

I promise I didn't see my scarecrow was leaning when I took these pictures.  I would have taken new photos but kept humming,
"What do you do with a drunken scarecrow" so I decided to leave him.
I pulled the wagon out of someone's trash.

We get a fair amount of trick or treaters in our neighborhood.

I think they will enjoy coming to the door.

Now I just need to stock up on candy.

Redecorating for Fall

So...
I had things pretty well decorated for fall. I was tweaking a few things and had already started taking some pictures.
Then we got the cabinets painted, but when I went to put things back in the kitchen like they were, I realized that they didn't look quite right.
Suddenly all my vintage treasures and pumpkins didn't look as good, so I am starting over.
I used to need a stronger, bolder aesthetic because the oak overpowered the space.
I don't need that anymore.
This is what my fall decor looked like a week ago.

This little Halloween display will be better somewhere else.
I need to lighten up this corner.
The pumpkin pie display, has too much orange for the corner where I had it.

I was crazy about this planter before we painted. Now I don't know where I will put it.
I can always use it outside for plants.
This vignette on top of the fridge is gone.
The new fridge is counter depth and taller so I don't have that much room for stuff.

I had a few pieces of rusty stuff.

I'm not sure all of this will come back in.
I don't think I need as much because I won't be trying to divert my attention away from the cabinets.
I picked up a few white pumpkins and some orange roses.
I also found some cute green leaves at Tom Thumb.
I will be back to show you the completed kitchen and the new fall decor.
Sprinkled with rust and pumpkins,
Katie
