Antique Spool Cabinet

I wanted to showcase one of my favorite garage sale treasures.
It was five dollars quite a few years ago.
Okay, maybe 17??
It seems like yesterday.

I found some wonderful things at garage sales when we first bought this house.
My friend, Michelle and I were very adept at loading up the kids and heading out on Friday mornings.

My favorite piece really is this darling spool cabinet.
It was covered in green paint.
I think that if I found it today, I might keep it green, but at the time I wanted it to look like it just came out of the general store.

Originally it wouldn't have had legs. The drawers would have sat on the counter.
At some point people added leg to these cabinets and they became end tables.
My mom had hers ever since I can remember. She had  a Goff"s Best Braid cabinet.
The legs on mine are quite primitive.
Whoever put them on did a good job, they aren't wobbly at all.
Antique Spool Cabinet
I see these spool cabinets sometimes in antique malls. They are about $300.00 every time I see one.
I guess they are quite collectible.
This one was not difficult to strip.
It must have been painted right over un-primed wood because the paint came off easily.

I repainted the drawer fronts black.
I finally after years and years and years I've found a stencil to fix the letters.
I am a little chicken to try it though.

I am smitten with the brown and black together.
I told you how I didn't think the scheme worked but it does.
The Rayo kerosene lamp my dad rewired is sitting on it.

This piece makes me smile. I love to sew. It's the perfect little end table.

The garden room is one of our more casual spaces.
A perfect place for a school desk (here)
 and a spool cabinet.
Sprinkled with a cute cabinet,

Camping Weekend

We went camping a few weekends ago.
It was a beautiful fall day.

We camp in a trailer out at my brother's property.
It isn't huge but it beats camping in a tent.
I  thought it would be fun to take some pics. My own version of glamping.

When we bought the trailer I immediately changed the bedspread.
The one that came with the trailer was Oriental in style and the fabric was very cheesy. I think we gave it away.
It didn't really even match the camper.

You know how I love my matelasse.
I shopped for rusty, red linens to go with the upholstery.

My mom made the needlepoint pillow.
I love, love vintage needlepoint.
The little slide-out gives us a tad more room.
We have a DVD player and T.V for when it is just the two of us camping. If there is a group we sit around the campfire.
Our choice for the interior were red, blue or beige.
This one had the best cabinet, counter top and flooring color.

We have everything we need in the kitchen.
The best thing we have in the trailer is a full bathroom. I didn't take a picture of it, well because it is just a bathroom.
It has a separate bath tub and shower instead of a shower that sprays all over. It was very high on my priority list.
I don't like roughing it.
It is small but cozy.
We are outside for the most part, anyway.

It is fun to feed the longhorns.
This one is my namesake.
She was born the weekend of my 50th birthday party.

She is such a sweetie.

These two are inseparable.

It was a fun and beautiful weekend.

Sprinkled with a weekend of relaxation,
Katie

Entertainment Console

Mr. Bill wanted us to get a new entertainment center.
We have had the same entertainment center for 20 years.
It has housed our small T.V.
When the kids were growing up, I didn't want our household to be all about the T.V. so,
we almost always had smaller ones and there were always hidden away.
He wanted to get me a bigger television and something more stylish to set it on.
He was in charge of the television.
I was in charge of the cabinet.
We shopped around town and looked on line and in catalogs.
I really wanted a built in cabinet.

The base would have been kitchen cabinets with shelves up above. I even drew out my plans.
I needed Bill's help, but he is always super busy at work and wouldn't have been able to assist with the build.
So plan B.
I wanted a Pottery Barnesque type of console without the price.

We found this one at a local furniture chain for less than half of the one I liked at P.B.
It has that Craftsman style like my front door.

It changes the look and feel of our living area.

The candlesticks were in the kitchen before we painted the cabinets. I hit them with Oil Rubbed Bronze Metallic by Rust Oleum. It is the best stuff.

The birdcage was on top of the old armoire.
I stacked some books inside.
I sprayed the pumpkin silver. I really didn't think it would work. Marty over at "A Stroll Through Life" inspired me with that.
It is fun to have a surface to decorate for a change.
Guess how much I paid for the lamp?
$7.00.
It was at Kirklands after Christmas clearance sale.

I didn't center the T.V.
I still didn't want it to be the focus of attention.
:)
Sprinkled with entertainment,
Katie
Pop back in and I will let you know where the armoire ended up.
