Mr. Bill finally agreed to having the kitchen cabinets painted.
Then he wanted to know how much. :/
The painters had already primed so it was too late for that.
:)
I told you about my experience with having them done professionally.
Read about it here.
I have also painted cabinets myself--4 times.
It was not fun at all.
I sort of said I would never do it again after the last time.
Which is why I lived with the oak longer than I wanted to.
I am not as young as I used to be and I knew that it would take me weeks. I was sure I would have paint in my hair.
Here is the deal.
If you have read this blog at all, you know that I am a do it yourself kind of girl.
But...
sometimes it is good to know when you can't do something.
It was worth it just to fork over some cash and let someone else deal with the mess.
We did this makeover over the course of the last 4 years.
Here is a picture before we did anything.
I tried to make the best of these cabinets and painted the kitchen robin's egg blue.
I actually liked it pretty well until a friend of mine told me that a blue kitchen in un-appetizing.
I was perfectly able to eat in a blue kitchen.
Things started to break and wearing out, so we started working on the kitchen piece by piece.
Here is an approximate break down of the cost.
Counters- $200 Home Depot
Sink $400 Home Depot
Microwave $300 Sears
Stove $800

Dishwasher$800
Refrigerator $1200
Table and Chairs $600
Ceiling $1200 (repair damage from water leak, scrape popcorn and paint)
Cabinet painting $1850
Knobs $80

I think this is a very frugal kitchen makeover.
It literally feels like I am standing in a brand new kitchen.
It took time and patience but I think it was worth it.
Suddenly, I feel like having people over again.

We've got some fall birthdays coming up.
Suddenly, I feel like having people over again.
I just love it.
Sprinkled with white cabinets, ;)Katie
